Susan Cross, ARNP, FNP-C
Susan has been an advanced registered nurse practitioner in family medicine since 1998 and a full-time nurse for more than 30 years. Her multi-disciplinary clinical expertise includes the medical specialties of otorhinolaryngology, facial plastic surgery, dermatology, and endocrinology.
Susan’s nursing career began in 1978 at the Wolfe Clinic in Marshalltown. Completing her family nurse practitioner certification in 1998, she joined the endocrinology/adult medicine team at McFarland Clinic in Ames. She worked in their acute care walk-in clinic, where she provided primary care history and physicals, diabetes management within ADA guidelines, and lipid clinic within AHA-NCEP III guidelines. For her last six years with McFarland Clinic, she worked in dermatology and medical and cosmetic skin care utilizing their Excimer®, Lightsheer®, and phototherapy lasers.
In 2008, Susan joined Kathy Cook, MD, part time in her private dermatology practice in Ames. She provided medical and cosmetic dermatology services, referrals, and coordination of care for Moh’s procedures: IPL, Fractional CO2, Lightsheer®, and Isolaz® laser treatments. She dispensed SkinMedica® and Obagi® medical skin care and provided peels, BOTOX®, and filler treatments.
In 2010, Susan opened Urban Effects MedSpa in Des Moines.
Alice Doolittle, RN
Alice graduated from Southwestern Community College of Nursing in 1984. She began her nursing career at Ringgold County Hospital in Mount Ayr. She joined McFarland Clinic in 1989, working in orthopedic department until 1994. She continued her clinical experience in dermatology as a department manager through 2004, when she transitioned to become the first assistant in general surgery.
Alice joined Dr. Kathy Cook in her private dermatology practice as nurse manager in 2009. She joined Urban Effects MedSpa in 2013, working in medical dermatology, BBL®, Forever Young BBL®, skin tightening, and acne treatments. She provides client coaching for Urban Effects medically directed Ideal Protein® weight loss program.
Andree (Andy) Lawler
Andy began her career at the Wolfe Clinic in 1982. Her responsibilities included coordinating patient appointments, insurance prior authorizations, photo documentation, and providing patient education on Obagi® medical skin care regimens. She worked with the Marshalltown Community School district from 1999 to 2000 as a data coordinator and was the program director for Child Abuse Prevention Services from 2000 to 2004. In 2004, she joined the Area Education Agency 267 as a parent coordinator, where she promoted, developed, and strengthened partnerships between parents, educators, and community agencies to provide services to children with special needs from birth to 21. She coordinated services with agencies and educators for families with children of special needs in a seven-county area and directed the operations of the Family and Educator Connections Program while serving on several boards and advisory panels.
Andy joined Urban Effects MedSpa in 2013 as our patient concierge. Her responsibilities include coordination of patient scheduling, reception, and daily operations. She assists in coordinating patient events and making sure all guests receive the special attention they deserve during their visit.
